this is located in libgcc.a and comes with gcc build.
So, probably, on a linker stage you just forgot to specify an MCU arc, which 
result linking software code, where hardware functions do not exist. Use gcc 
as a linker, specifying 
        -mmcu=msp430x149
If not, please send full output to the list.

this is:
-mdisable-hwmul
.
This will disable HW multiplier for everything.
