I've been experiencing a lock up problem with the parallel port FET
tool. It works well for long periods of time, but occasionally it gets
stuck in a mode where neither msp430-jtag.py nor msp430-gdbproxy will
work.
msp430-gdbproxy gives the error "Could not find device (or device not
supported)"
and msp430-jtag.py gives the error "An error occured:" "Can't open
interface"
Normally both these tools work fine. However once the condition occurs,
the only way I am able to clear it is to disconnect all cables and power
from both the FET tool and from the target device. This is not normally
a big deal, except that I have been working remotely of late, and I
don't have physical access to the target and the FET.
Does anyone know of a way to clear this condition remotely? Or, is
there a way to prevent it from occurring?
Does a reboot have any effect? It may be possible that the system's
printer driver is causing problems, but you have probably already
disabled that.
I think some people have added a reset button to their FET tools for
this same reason, although I have never had any problems with mine.

Hi all,
just like to let you know (if not known already) that some of my
Anti-Virus, Anti-Worm, Anti-Spyware programs pop up and shout to me that
C:\Programme\mspgcc\bin\msp430-downloader.exe
seems to be a worm "Worm.RJump.a"
Since I do not believe that the MSPGCC-dev group has any interest to
hack my computer nor to steal all my intellectual properties (for sure
there are gigabytes full of intellectual properties ;) ) there are two
possibilities.
1. The Anti-Spy-Software is wrong
If so I can easily ignore the pop up messages. However, just one wrong
click during the pop up message and msp430-downloader will be deleted.
Furthermore, it might happen to other users and they may not take care
to much and delete the file.
I do not know whether one has to inform the anti-spy software companies
or what to change in msp430-downloader.exe to help here.
I assume since msp430-downloader is a
"Send-me-data-on-a-special-way"-App it looks close to a worm.
2. My file got infected really. For that it would be interesting to know
if you have the same experience then me for this particular file
If not one of this f*cking worms hit me
If yes goto point 1 ;)
Bye
Torsten

I remember slightly a GUI for such task's.
The Siemens C167 toolset used to have such a GUI.

Hello,
I've a basic question.
I run every time in trouble, when I configure the diverse peripherals of
the MSP. Some bits are certainly wrong set.
Does any one knows a program or so which throws out a skeleton for
this. One could say for example as text :
DMA nr bit|word from to int
and I'd get the code for initialisation of a DMA.
I remember slightly a GUI for such task's.
Similar is the question of the documentation of the resources:
How many int's, peripherals.
thanks for any advice,
Steffen

I read in one of your replies that linux only supports the 3410 with the
default VID/PID.
yes. but i think the bug is found.
i used the chip with the default ID and it worked flawless (unlike
others... FTDI is fine too)
When I make my board for the USB to serial bridge should I
include a blank EEPROM or should I leave the EEPROM disconnected?
both is OK. only when you want to reprogram an alredy used EEPROM, you
need a way to disconnect during startup
Also could you clafiry weather I need to program the TUSB3410 before use? Or
can I just build a board around them and connect it to a linux system and
have myself a USB to Serial bridge???
Yes. no programming is needed, it works with the default ID without
EEPROM (or an empty one). the driver downloads the code when the adapter
is plugged in (reuqires that you have set up hotplug)
as alternative you can also download the firmware to the EEPROM, which
you can do in curcuit (at least with the Windows tools). i never tried
this variant myself.
what do I need to do in linux from a software/ driver perspective to use the
TUSB and send serial out?
while the driver is included in the kernel it seems that the hotplug
scripts are not installed by default (at least not on my distro) there
is a separate driver download (http://gate.brimson.com/downloads/) which
includes the hotplug script ("make install").

no, no interest :-)

what do you mean by this? the downloader isn't that special. it accesses
the giveio driver to gain access to the parallel port but that all about
it that is special. it does not open any network connection. it only
open a few files from the mspgcc/bin folder and of course the file you
specified.
