Does ayone know what GCC versions the gcc/gcc-3.4 or gcc/gcc-current
directories apply to?  (The gcc/readme.txt file would be an obvious place
to document this, as well as what the stability level of the various patch
sets is.)

Yes adding it to the gcc readme.txt would be good, although it gets out of date. It needs a comment adding for gcc-4.1.1

The gcc-current directory was for gcc-3.4, although gcc-3.2.3 is the best version to use.
