AFAICT, the libraries support the part just file. Other
applications don't have any problems recognizing the part:
IAR-EW (Windows), Elprotronics (Windows), msp430-jtag
It's just msp430-gdbproxy that doesn't recognize the part (on
either Windows or Linux).
