TI have made BSD-licensed images available for upgrading/downgrading
FET firmware, so you can use the new MSP430 library without having to
update your FET from a Windows system. Firmware and instructions are
available here:

I've tested the upgrade and downgrade procedures on Debian (x86), and I
haven't run into any problems. You will need to update to the latest
git version of mspdebug in order to perform a downgrade though.
