That's what I mentioned in my first email. Looks powerful but it is a little
bit overwhelmed for me and (as found in readme.htm) it does need a separate
server.

Found it. I knew someone had done this already.

Scott Keiffer has a Web Frontend for 2012.

I'm curious about this too. I remember reading the same thing. The helpdesk
manager/staff were bummed when they found out this wasn't available in 2012.
I've got software distribution working with AD groups so that part isn't a
problem but they liked the "one stop shop" and how simple it was to lookup
someone's PC name or get PC information, etc. So far, they aren't fans of the
SSRS style of reporting. Neither am I but I'm hoping it grows on me once have I
learned it more.

I thought about making my own mini front end with just some basic reports that
they use often but unless I'm missing something, with SSRS, I don't see a way
to append the machine name or userid (or whatever variable the report calls
for) onto the end of the URL when displaying the report. Is there way to do
that? Or would I have to use some other method of displaying the results?

On that same subject, is there a way to email a link to the results of a report
like we could with ASP reporting? Quite often, I would send direct links to
members of management with report results instead of requiring them to have to
go run the report themselves. Only way I've found so far is to export the
report and send it to them in XLS.

Hi Ron,

thanks for your reply.
I thought I did read somewhere that it would be nearly impossible to adapt your
web tool for 2012.
Our Helpdesk is loving this tool mainly for distributing software, reports and
I added operating system deployment functionality.
That's why I love it too: no need to distribute and configure SCCM or ConfigMgr
console or other software, available on every PC, it can be easily extended
with some vb scripts. It's my IE's home page since many years.
And last but not least: it's free!
I will dig in the asp scripts and try to make it work for 2012.
Again, many thanks for this tool and your work, much appreciated.

Best regards,
Reto

Ah, why look for a replacement?

Just make a few minor modifications, and you are off and running.

The underlying technology still works.

I know everyone (including me) has been waiting (some patiently others not
patiently) for the next version.

As to not go into how life gets in the way and people trying to sell a hacked
version of my FREE tool, I've gotten so busy that this project has not moved
since it was presented at MMS a few years ago. Yes, it was 99% done with a
minor bug that ended up being a larger bug than I had thought.

However, I still have plans on releasing it...either as is for the community to
finish it or a completed FREE product.

Enough on when, why, and how come...

Let's get back to your question...

You can just do a few tweaks to the code and it will work with 2012!

I would ask, what are you wanting to do with the tool? RBAC will help you with
the native console to achieve most of what it does.

If you just want to do Software deployment you should look into Shopping from
1E or other products in this space.

So, how many people are really wanting the new version of this tool?? Email me
directly with your request
(rcrumba...@myitforum.com<mailto:rcrumba...@myitforum.com>) with subject line
"Ron's web tool" and let's see what the community is wanting. Who knows, maybe
the community will drive the completion.

Dear all,

I am looking for a replacement of Ron's web remote tools.
Scott Keiffer's Configuration Manager Web
Frontend<http://scottkeiffer.wordpress.com/> looks very powerful but it needs a
separate server which I don't have.
Has anybody succeeded in migrating Ron's tools to ConfigMgr 2012 or are there
other web interfaces available (google didn't help me)?
We mainly need it for help desk being able to deploy software, reporting, OSD
and other customizations.

Thanks,
Reto
