Can be quite a walk in Vegas, although it may be all in house and freezing… :)

But I know what you mean.

Still sucks. I like to be able to go back to my room a couple times per day. In
Vegas that's a 5 min walk each way. At 25 min one is basiically stuck at the
convention center all day.

The Metro light rail isn’t obstructed by traffic (it runs through the center
media of the streets).

http://www.ridemetro.org/Services/Rail.aspx

It would take you from TMC to about six blocks from the convention center for
under $2 in about 20-25 minutes.

Thanks,

-Michael

Googled TMC :), Texas Medical Center.

Best Western is about 120 a night.

How long for the metro line then? Aren’t they stuck in the same traffic?

There's still some hotels available down by the TMC that are, what I could
consider reasonably priced. Plus, they are 1-2 blocks from the Metro line.

I go to a conference every year in Houston where the attendance is 60K+ over
the course of 4 days. Logistically, I don't think there's ever been any
issues. $6 cab rides within the loop, $3 daily Metro fare. Does it add up
over the week - of course. For me, it's the benefits that I get from the
conference that far outweigh the inconvenience of riding the metro or taking a
cab.

With MMS, I was never lucky enough to stay at the conference hotel or anywhere
near, so I always had to take a cab and/or the monorail, but at least I was
able to attend.....

A distant hotel and getting stuck in traffic twice a day?

How bad would that be?

Never was in Houston (or Texas), but you’re saying it’s bad choice in the first
place?

Honestly, if TechEd was in another place that's not logistically retarded for
these type of events I might of gone. My team and I are going to give IT/Dev
connections a shot this year. Hopefully we get similar value to MMS. I know
this isn't helpful to this thread. Just venting, again. :)

Yeah, all the airbnb stuff close to the hotel listed by “Kozi Corporate
Housing” is only for month long stays. They advertise 5 day minimums, but if
you aren’t booking a month they will only let you book at the last second.

I think that area is fine. I was looking an apt there and a co-worker did end
up getting one there. There's a free bus that runs in the area.

Still not sure if I want to go, but if I do, I figured that the hotels listed
with the convention are already booked or too expensive or both…

But an apartment within the yellow line here should be ok right?

The distance is rather close, around 1 mile, so walking could be ok to, right?

If people walk in Houston :)

Otherwise it’s a really short cab drive or maybe bus ride?
