Ah yeah we have some 2003 left as well. 1610 installs on them just fine, its just not supported.

You of course lose any new functionality like new software center, etc. Patching, reporting, and software distribution work though. Looked for a bit to see if 1702 will work with many of the older SCCM 2012 Clients - is there a certain version where the SCCM 2012 client is incompatible with 1702?
