Sorry for the late response... been a bit off the grid. I had my first taste in Jan or Feb of 1999. I was hired by GTECH in Nov 1998 to roll out this SMS thing they'd heard about and wanted to implement. I was at that time proficient with Frye Utilities managing the Novell network at a regional bank in New England. GTECH hired me away to get SMS v2.0 deployed. We were engaged with a consulting services company who had an engineer assigned to us who was in Redmond in that early 1999 timeframe.. He got his hands on a bootleg copy of the 2.0 RTM code there that he brought back to us. He and I then proceeded to stand it up in our lab and got it working with our Windows 98 running WFWG. The rest was history.

I didn't really get into the console side and managing SCCM until 2009. Sounds like I missed out on most of the early years of fun.
