Map a network drive to your IE 5.5 location, or pop the IE5.5 CD in the cdrom drive. Network is better, in my opinion. Go to a command prompt, get to the folder which contains the ie5setup, and type the following:
for NT: ie5setup.exe /c:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_NTx86 /I:Y" for win9x: ie5setup.exe /c:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_WIN /I:Y" IE5 setup will appear, choose the "minimal install, or customize your browser" option. Don't select any additional options. Select the download site, and download and install the windows desktop update, which includes active desktop. After rebooting, you will have your active desktop. Done it lots of times. Thanks, James R. When I install IE 5.5 it doesn't come automatically with the active desktop "upgrade". I really don't miss the desktop itself, but I really miss the editable "address" in Windows Explorer (I instinctively hit ALT-D and start typing before I realize that it's not set up right...). Is there any SP or update I can install that has this? I've tried going back and installing 4.0, but I never could get that to work. And now I can't seem to find IE 4.0 on m$.com anyway... /dev/null email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] web: www.BeginThread.com/dev.null ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------ You are subscribed as [email protected] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
