They are definitely related. Take a look at Q188305 (Troubleshooting the
Microsoft Computer Browser Service).
Also, if they are on different subnets, are there any SAMBA servers on
those subnets? Reason being, if there is a SAMBA server, it will always be
the master browser unless you remove the browser entry from the .conf file.
