Hi everyone,

Yesterday I bought a SFG-05 on a local fair. I thought that you could only
use
this module in a Yamaha cxm MSX computer. But, a few months ago, I bought a
Yamaha YIS503F msx 1. Today I noticed that the Yamaha yis also had the same
60 pin cartridge slot on the bottom. I removed the cartridge that was
already there (a 32KB memory expansion), And I placed the SFG-05 instead of
that memory expansion. I turned on the MSX, and did a _music in basic.

There came a menu where you can edit the fm sounds that are in the
cartridge.

I have a few questions: I've read in the article on Alex his page that you
need a extra cartridge to be able to access the fm module through it's
build in MIDI ports, it's called the 'YRM-502 FM Voicing Program II'
cartridge.

Does someone has such a cartridge?
Do I really need one?
Has anyone got the keyboard that works with the module?
How do I get sound out of it? Lot's of options in the menu's but I don't
have the manual of this cartridge. Is someone willing to scan his manual?
;-)

The box says: DISK compatible. However, in the menu I only see the option
to write to tape. I have a Toshiba external ss drive. I know that some
Belgium guy wrote some custom software for this cartridge once. Anyone know
about this.

Furthermore: After looking at some Japanese pages and a good look at the
yis503 photo's on funet, I think that the whole range of cxm* and yis* all
have the same 60 pin slot on the bottom and that the SFG-05 can be used with
a lot more Yamaha MSX1 and MSX2 computers. The MSX FAQ needs to be changed
on this subject. Maybe anyone can acknowledge this.

Lot's of questions, I hope someone can answer a few.

Thanks,

Sander

I've heard that pin 11 till 60 on the cartridge are pin compatible with the
50 pins of a normal MSX cartridge and that you can make a cable to connect
the module to any MSX you want.
