I thought this might be of some interest.

Saku Taipale has the original Synthesizer cartridge. The original game
came with a tape, which he recorded to .wav, I've converted them to .cas.

I've uploaded the files to funet, dunno where they are now. But you can
also get them from:

        http://www.msxnet.org/konami/Synthesizer/

The cartridge has a 8bit D/A which is accessed through memory mapped I/O
address 4000h. It's unsigned. The .cas files are simply short samples 
which you can use in music you compose with Synthesizer.

So on linux:

$ play -t .raw -u -b -c 1 -r 11025 Synthesizer-Dog.cas

And you hear a dog bark.

MESS emulates this cartridge with D/A. You need the crc files to make 
it work correctly (this is how mess knows it's Synthesizer).
