JPG is meant for photographs and nothing else. (Stuff with smooth color 
gradients.)

Yup. Maybe TIFF would be better, it features compression and lacks the 
copyright problems of GIF.

You don't want that, it takes forever! :)
Especially when you consider to read those docs, you don't want to do that on MSX from 
JPG files.
