How about CTR?

A couple of OUTI's is faster than OTIR's ^_^.
Example: if you 'unroll' LDIR to a couple of LDI's you can do LDIR almost
25% faster. For more info look at
http://www.students.cs.uu.nl/~lholst/map/?p=articles/fast_loops.html

And updating the textbuffers and writing them to VRAM is faster when
scrolling (ok, I guess you're not really using that ^_^). In general they're
just easier to access and it seems to me that it's more practical in a
windowing system since sometimes portions get partially hidden - the window
renderer can then take care of that.
