I have performed a simple transmission speed test with the provisional
BIOS of ObsoNET. The test consisted on sending one 1KByte long packet, 10000
times on a loop, and measuring with the MSX timer how many time the
operation took. These are the results:
On R800: 31 seconds, so about 320 KByte/second.
On Z80: 118 seconds, so about 85 KByte/second.
Of course the real performance will be smaller since on real
applications more code will be involved, especially when using TCP/IP.
But this can serve as an indication of the "absoulte" maximum
transmission speed achievable.
