Ah, I did think of that. I shouldn't have to open any incoming ports locally should I? I have just tried opening port 9418 which has made no difference, but I suspect that wasn't the problem in the first place. Otherwise it must be some kind of traffic shaping at my ISP. I will be mainly using git for local work, so it may not be too much of an issue. I'm just worried about possibly working with remote projects in the future if they don't have http access.
