The computer science laboratory of the University of Le Mans (LIUM)
was recently awarded two major international grants and we are seeking
to substantially expand the group working on statistical machine
translation. The team currently consists of nine permanent, postdoc and
PhD researchers. We have funding to hire 4 to 6 postdocs or PhD
students. We also consider applications from computer science engineers
with a proven record of developments in the field for natural language
processing.
These positions are funded in the range of 49 to 55K Euros for a
postdoc, depending on qualification and experience. Funding is available
immediately and for up to three years.
Topics of interest are (but not limited to):
- adaptation techniques
- discriminative and unsupervised training, comparable corpora, etc
- use of new machine learning methods, e.g. continuous space techniques
- syntax-based methods
Prerequisites:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in statistical
modeling, machine learning, language processing and machine translation.
Several years of experience in using UNIX environments, including the
standard script and programming languages is a necessary condition.
Knowledge of the Moses decoder will be considered favorably. We are
particularly interested in native speakers of Arabic, Chinese or Pashto.
The research is supported by a large computing cluster owned by our
group. The working language is English.
Please send a CV and names and contact information of three referees to
[email protected]. Inquiries should be sent to the same
address. Applications are welcome from now until the positions will be
filled. Interviews at EMNLP/WMT in July in Edinburgh can be arranged.
