Open positions: PhD and Post-doc in Machine Learning for Translation at Saarland University
The DFG-funded CRC Information Density and Linguistic Encoding (SFB 1102) is opening two positions (PhD and Post-doc) within the project B6 “Neural Feature and Representation Learning for Information Density Based Translationese Classification”. Application deadline: 15th September 2018 Start date: ASAP Location: Saarbrücken, Germany Duration: 3+ and 2+ years for PhD and Post-doc respectively. More information: [email protected] Successful applicants will work at Saarland University, a leading centre for language research which offers a dynamic and stimulating environment. The Collaborative Research Centre "Information Density and Linguistic Encoding", which the open positions are part of, supports a broad range of experimental, corpus-based, and cognitive modelling research activities, with over 40 staff. The Saarland University Campus clusters several top-ranked research institutions such as the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, Max Planck Institute for Software Systems and the Computer Science Department at Saarland University. Research conducted will focus on: - machine learning, deep learning for translation - analysis of translation fingerprints (translationese) - representation and transfer learning with end-to-end architectures - interpretation, dissemination and visualisation of learned representations General responsibilities include: - fundamental and empirical research - publication in top conferences/journals - development of prototypes, applications and demos - contribution to teaching and supervision Requirements: - MSc/PhD in computer science, machine learning, computational linguistics or similar - for Post-doc, strong background and publications in machine learning, deep learning, MT and NLP - strong problem solving and programming skills, independent and creative thinking - strong team working and communication skills - excellent command of written and oral English Command of German or other languages will be helpful, but is not a requirement.
