Folks,

You may be aware that the North East England
region has attracted for the 1st time (In England) the high profile
European Mountain Bike race series Avalanche, the event takes place this
weekend and we are delighted to welcome European visitors to Kielder Water &
Forest Park.

This is only the 2nd time ever Avalanche has
come to the UK, last year the award winning Glentress Forest in the Scottish
Borders attracted the event across the water.

There will be a packed weekend at Kielder
Castle as there is events and activities for all the family and you don't need
to be a full on mountain biker to enjoy Kielder Water & Forest Park as staff
will be handing out free maps which will let visitors know how to find the
fantastic Lakeside Way, which is already open from Kielder Dam to Leaplish for
walkers, horse rides and cyclists.

Add to this the fantastic BORDER RAID 31
mile mtb race into Scotland and tackle the 7stanes Newcastleton trails before
coming back to Kielder on Saturday morning to kick the whole weekends events
off, which still have some final places left to fill if you know anyone who
would be up for that.

Contact Ian Bell at The Bike Place in
Kielder on 01434 250457 for more details on The Border Raid mtb
race.

If you are coming to see or take part in any
of the events this weekend, please note the main Castle Car Park will be
shut for the ACTIVE ZONE & Bike Village so parking will be behind
The Anglers Arms and in the Kielder village main playing fields. You will be
met
by staff & volunteers manning these car parks and the fee for parking is £3
per vehicle, for less abled visitors parking can be found at Kielder
Castle.

Some of you will have seen the below article
in the local papers today, media coverage for this event has been fantastic and
we are delighted to announce SKY SPORTS will be filming the event for the Euro
Sport Channels, which will encourage more visitors to Kielder Water & Forest
Park over the coming months/ years.

As you can imagine we are thrilled at the
support for this event in the run up and looking forward to an exciting event
weekend, where local businesses not just in the North Tyne Valley will get
custom, but the wider Northumberland/ Scottish Borders area as an
output from this event alone.

If you are not into biking, there is loads
of great events all year round at Kielder, to find out more visit
www.forestry.gov.uk/northeastengland or
why not pick up a copy of the fantastic Venture newsletter, which is the
new publication from Kielder Partnership informing on all the great events
within the Kielder Water & Forest Park area

Wildlife Watch Month is halfway through now,
but there are still great events that you can attend including the fantastic
family wildlife day at Leaplish on 31st May at Leaplish Waterside
Park.

I would like to thank to take this
opportunity to thank our partners & sponsors who we are working with on this
weekends event in the run up to this event, a number of them will have stands
