> Michael Owen & "striker" in the same sentence . . . bwaaaaaaaaaaa ha ha ha > ha > now that is the biggest contradiction i have ever heard . . . he he he
I'm fairly impartial(!) but Michael Owen is a very decent player. To have played upfront with Emile Heskey means that all the burden of goalscoring falls on Owen's shoulders. Owen is still only 23 and has won European Footballer of the Year. 148 goals in 270 appearances for someone so young is pretty good going. Only Ruud or Henry has a better strike-rate I would have thought. International-wise, 24 goals in 54 appearances is not a bad record considering England are well shite. Owen will break Bobby Charlton's 49 goals if he remains relatively injury-free, which will be a bitter pill to swallow for United fans who support England. Hands up who breathed a sigh of relief when Owen didn't play against us on Sunday? He surely would have caused a few more problems for us considering our central defence was prone to dozing off. People say Owen's left foot shooting is a bit suspect at times but he has improved this part of his game along with his heading. Ruud can't really head the ball or score goals from outside the 18 yard box. Henry can't head the ball, is prone to sulking and can't produce much in the Champions League. All strikers have parts of their games which need working on but this ignores the undoubted strengths they possess. I'm sounding like a Scouse supporter now so I'll leave it at that!!!!!
