Well, there are "ordinary dishes" which appear on both the Chinese and 
English menus.
Afterall we Chinese do eat simple food as well.

Not too sure about the price difference - though I believe they the 
kitchen tends to alter the cooking method a bit for Westerners due to 
taste differences - yes, the Chinese and the Westerners do have 
different preferences when it comes to taste.
