Anyway, it made no difference and menu shortcuts and other keys if used as a shortcut in the window still take priority even when the BetterString gadget is active. Does BetterString need to be initialised in some way globally ? I did apply the MUIA_BetterString_NoShortcuts bool attribute to each gadget individually. I have got around this problem by only having menus attached to my main backdrop window and disabling menus in any other windows - but one day I would still be interested to know how to make the BetterString gadget have input priority like the standard MUI String does.
