Gee, if you spoke Esperanto, I'd have lots of ideas.
Hey, wanna learn Esperanto? I'm kidding, of course,
but just barely. If your trip is two months away,
you could squeeze in a crash-course in Esperanto and
in the meanwhile, contact the various families and
make arangements - explaining your situation and what
you're looking for, and that you are a complete
beginner in Esperanto. I suspect that many Chinese
people in the Esperanto hospitality service would love
to have a family like yours as guests. I won't speak
for them, though, and it would not be appropriate
to contact these families without at least a pretext
of being interested in Esperanto (this is not to
suggest that I advocate deception or pretense.)

The Pasporta Servo (www.esperanto.NET/ps) lists hosts
in roughly 18 Chinese cities. I don't know enough
about Chinese geography and language to tell a big
city from a hick town, nor where Cantonese is spoken,
but I saw a few entries which looked interesting - a
family with a 7 year old girl in Xinyang, a teacher
in Xinxang, a professor of English in the same city...
How far north is Cantonese spoken? How about Changsha
or Wuhan? Here's someone in Guangxi, which you
mentioned. You mentioned Beijing, but isn't that
outside of the Cantonese area? (I really don't know.)

Amike salutas,
Thomas/Tomaso ALEXANDER.
