Hi group, I have been lurking for a few weeks now and wanted to introduce myself and ask a question. I am 7 months pregnant (my first!) and planning to raise our child bilingually English/Spanish. I would be doing non-native minority language Spanish, and hubby would be doing English. I want to start ironing out as many of the kinks as I can even before the baby is born to make sure we got off to a good start!
Here's my question. My mother-in-law gave me a book on baby sign language. (I have some background in American Sign Language, although I've lost most of it from blatant disuse!) I was wondering if anyone has combined signs with multiple spoken languages in order to bridge the gap in translations. Do you think this would facilitate the learning, or complicate matters? If you're not familiar with the concept of baby signing, the authors do have a website which explains the idea (along with trying to sell the materials, of course!) that can be found by searching on the web for "baby signs".
