Follow-up Comment #2, bug #6274 (project muse-el):
I traced muse-publish a bit today and the cuplrit seems to be in the function
"muse-publish-include-tag", i.p. the lines
> (insert-file-contents filename)
> (muse-publish-markup-region beg (point)))
Typically, beg = (point) after (insert-file ...) which means the function
itself does not mark up anything. The included file does however get marked
up by the main loop (iterating over the rules) in "muse-publish-markup":
Having just included the file using the tag rule (priority 1300) it later
marks up the lists (priority 2200). At this point, however, extra white
space in the included file has NOT been removed since the corresponding rule
(priority 1100) is never run on the included file.
I think either the tag rule (1300) has to be moved to a lower priority than
the trailing space rule (1100) - I am not sure whether this would actually
work - or the include code quoted above has to call
"muse-publish-markup-region" for the correct region.
