Follow-up Comment #2:
Okay, it's fine if it's expected to have duplicates, I can easily
change the planner.el code to expect that. Functions in planner
were incorrectly assuming that each element in the list would be
unique (like planner-list-unfinished-tasks), and so would return
weird duplicate results. Thanks.
