OK, should be fixed now.  The problem was in a different place than I
had expected.

It's hard to give a general hint on how to debug problems like these.
I guess one way would be to do C-u C-M-x on muse-colors-region (or one
of the functions that it calls) and run M-x muse-colors-buffer to
explicitly trigger it.
