The lyrics case is quite different, because of all kind of legal
things. And even if the lyrics are unselectable, you're still able to
read them without having DON'T COPY THESE LYRICS printed over them
every two lines. This is a technical limitation that doesn't damage
the quality of the actual content (the lyrics) while the watermarks do
damage the quality of the content (the images). (it's also easy to
bypass, but that's a different thing)

The grey-or-not areas have been discussed between the Internet Archive
and MB and the Internet Archive is confident on its legal basis. So in
principle there's no need for it. If there was a need for adding
watermarks to all images, I can imagine we would just not have an
archive at all.
