Hi,
If you play for weddings (the ceremony part) what are some of the tunes
that you use?
Our (mainly) old-time dance/background music trio found itself playing for a small, home orchard wedding a few
weeks ago. Very last minute with communications hazy so we didn't know exactly what we would be doing until we got
there (thank goodness for wedding photographers!). But it didn't rain, the mosquitoes were kind, the wedding went
beautifully, and we got by nicely with what we had. The tune ("Waltz of the Little Girls) we thought was
going to be "ceremony music" (they didn't have any) worked for the bridal party entrance and we even
managed the "here comes the bride" march. They exited nicely to "Mairi's Wedding" (walking
speed), and a key and speed change got the guests up and moving. A few hours just wasn't quite enough for us to
comfortably play the usual (is it still usual??) Mendelssohn's Wedding March.
We don't plan to become a wedding band but we realize this could happen
again and would like to have a few more appropriate tunes to draw on. Lover's
Waltz we have, and the Wedding March (now) but a few more would be nice. Any
general wedding suggestions appreciated as well! (such as, make sure you have
chairs nearby to sit on so you don't have to stand with your instruments during
the whole ceremony when you realize there is nothing nearby to sit on and no
way to nicely remove yourselves (and get back for the exit) once the ceremony
started) (thankfully, it wasn't a long one).
Thanks! Sue Robishaw, U.P. of Michigan, [email protected]
