Al Quran

Surah Al Baqarah ~ 166-167

 166. Then would those who are followed clear themselves of those who follow
(them) : They would see the penalty, and all relations between them would be
cut off.

 167. And those who followed would say: "If only We had one more chance, We
would clear ourselves of them, as they have cleared themselves of us." Thus
will Allah show them (The fruits of) their deeds as (nothing but) regrets. Nor
will there be a way for them out of the Fire.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith ~ Hadith 1612

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) visited a young man who was dying and asked him
how he was. He replied, "I am hoping in Allah, Messenger of Allah, but I am
afraid of my sins." Whereupon Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "The
two cannot come together in a man's heart at such a time without Allah giving
him what he hopes for and granting him security from what he fears."

Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying that this is a gharib
tradition
