This is a bug report since Trac is currently inaccessible to me...

Some SMTP providers, notably GMail, require SASL authentication but they also
mandate usernames that contain the @ character (e.g. [email protected]).

Since there is no smtp_user variable, any username specified must currently
be encoded into the smtp_url parameter, however this does not properly handle
usernames with an @ character in them.

e.g. set smtp_url=smtps://[email protected]:[email protected]/
or set smtp_url=smtps://me%20googlemail.com:[email protected]/

both fail.

Suggest either implementing an smtp_user variable, or fixing the parsing of
SMTP URLs, or both :P
