The first patch of the series I sent on December 13th for adding git support to version.sh eliminated use of $HGROOT entirely. I just had the script cd to the directory where it is located as the first thing it does, eliminating the need for that. Changes to that area since then have introduced conflicts, but I'd be happy to fix that up and send a new version.
