Commit #5609:10cc06eff52b broke display of the status bar on OSX 10.8.2
and 10.5.8PPC, on both xterm-256color and xterm-color, and in both
 Terminal.app and iTerm2.

I display the status bar on top. After this commit, no status bar is
displayed while I'm viewing a message, but that terminal line is always
kept blank---colored like the background but never with any text.

The status bar is there like normal when just looking at the index.

However, if I set $pager_lines to e.g. 6, there used to be two status
lines before the mentioned commit. One on top of the screen, and one
between the mini-index and the viewed message. Now the second one is
gone, with a permanent empty line in its place.
