Does the behaviour change if you add <sync-mailbox>?

Speaking as an outsider, my recollection is that editing a message removes
 the
old message and makes a new one but doesn't see the new one until the
 mailbox
is synched again i.e. mutt's view of the mailbox sows the deleted unedited
message and no instance of the new one. I would expect that to tie in
 with the
 header cache maintenance.

Therefore, please retest with a sync-mailbox after the edit.

 Cheers,
