 I've also had frequent screen corruption with GNU screen (and bce on) for
 several months due to these wide characters, with sometimes the risk to
 delete the wrong message (because lines can be shifted upward). My bug
 reports concerning GNU screen:

 I wonder whether there should be an option to filter out these characters.
