alternates

i have a number of addresses for various reasons, but most of them
forward here.  i'd like to set my alternates variable for multpile
addresses but cannot for the life of me get it to work... i've tried
separating them with colons, spaces, commas, etc... am i missing
something obvious or will this not work?
