Can't do this. You need two separate lines.
alias a <adriaan>
alias adriaan <adriaan>
Note that the second alias is of no value since you could type in the
user id and the result would be the same.

This should be written:
alias ja john,adriaan
Assuming john and adriaan are both aliases or user id's on the system.
