No, I don't think so, with Mutt's RE engine lacking zero-width look-
ahead and -behind assertions. That's the crux I had to come to terms
with when constructing regular expressions for smileys and emoticons,
too, once upon a blue moon, and I'm not aware of any relevant changes
having been made to the engine since then.
