Incidentally, it would be nice to have some method of escaping <string>
so that it doesn't get interpreted.  Currently this apparently isn't
possible.  I ran into a problem with that when doing re-bindings of keys
from macros.

That part of the macro is now
"bind pager <.<backspace>up> previous-line\n",
thanks to someone's tip (I forget who).
