Depending on the kind of mail folders you use, Mutt gets this
information either from the Lines: header or from actually counting
the lines directly.

For mbox folders, Mutt can count the lines, but for Maildir and IMAP
at least it has to rely on the Lines header (in the interest of speed).
I don't know about the other folder types.  If the Lines header has a
wrong value or does not exist, Mutt's lines display will be incorred.
Usually 0 lines means there's no Lines header at all.
