% Hi all,
%
% I'm a user of mutt and like it but there are a few things I'd like to be able to
Welcome!
% do with it.
% So, It is possible to
% * Use Mutt with Usenet. I'm pretty sure we can't but is there a plan
% to program it ? Is it already in a patch ? Will this patch be included in
% the next version ?
It's not directly supported and won't become a mainstream feature, but
there are some patches floating around that enable news reading. Since I
don't read news these days, I don't know what they are :-) Surf on over
to the mutt web site (mutt.org) and dig through the archives.
%
% * I'd like to know whether we can put GnuPG in the background
% instead of waiting the 5 or 6 seconds each time we send an email. With
% Outlook, it directly signs & encrypt in the background, but with mutt, it
% does it while not allowing you to do anything else.
Dunno about this one, but I doubt that it would be such a great thing. I
personally would like to have some better feedback in case my passphrase
is incorrect (a not too rare occurence); I just find out by waiting a
little too long and hitting Ctrl-C :-) But, to get back to your point,
my guess is that there are too many things going back and forth between
you and gpg to want to just throw it in the background.
%
% * Is there an X frontend to mutt ? The problem isn't that I hate
% the console but that I'd like to be able to do several things at the same
% time. For example, when I reply to someong, I'd like to be able to read
% another message without opening a new console + re-opening the same
% mailbox...
There's no gui version of mutt, but you could always just fire up an
xterm (or any other terminal emulator; there are a good half-dozen in use
by the folks on the list) and read mutt in there -- and so you could do
that any number of times.
Since I don't get to use X, I use screen -- which gives me the side
benefit of not losing my work if I get knocked off my dialup line, and
the still additional benefit of never actually having to exit mutt :-)
That lets me have virtual terminals on one and screen 0 is always my
inbox (and 2 is the mutt list and 3 is ... :-)
%
% Thanks for helping me...
HTH & HAND & welcome!
:-D
