"man procmail" tells that in most (all?) cases, procmail takes an
optional "rcfile" argument -- ie. the ~/.procmailrc file is just the
default, you can specify any other file as well, or in fact, a number
of them. So that's a non-problem. Just make sure the command from
cron calls procmail with the appropriate input (the right folder split
with formail, I guess) and the right rcfile, and you should be all set.
I personally would go with David Champion's setup (and have done that,
even if I opted for quarterly folders, not monthly). That way you don't
need to do any extra filtering at all, just re-arrange the symlink at
whatever intervals you want.
