I think Gnus uses Sender: to check whether you should be allowed
to cancel a Usenet post.  But that should go away now that they've
added cancel locks.

Well, OK, Mutt will do most of the work--but it's still a lot of
work ;-)

So the advantage of Maildir is speed, and the disadvantage is that
it eats inodes for breakfast?

Maybe I should switch to a journaling filesystem as well.
