i'm not anti-sendmail (although i prefer postfix) but sendmail is a bit of a PITA to deal with, is confusing for people without much experience, and is overkill for many applications. it's easier to mess up your own configuration with sendmail than with other MTAs. there have also been a number of security holes in sendmail; even older versions of postfix are free (AFAIK) of severe root exploits (local / remote); and the program doesn't run as root. sendmail runs as root by default. while i don't necessarily agree with all the things said about sendmail on the list (or the frequent shouts of 'use postfix'), i don't think that it's the best application for certain choices. -- Experience -- a great teacher, but the tutition fees...
