Putt into your muttrc file:
set pgp_verify_sig=no
macro index \Cv "<enter-command>set
pgp_verify_sig=yes<enter><display-message><enter-command>set pgp_verify_sig=no<enter>"
"Verify PGP signature"
Now control-V will display a message with verification, but you won't
get it otherwise.
