Reading the message body from stdin doesn't apply the signature, whether
it's a pipe or a file. You could use, rather:

(cat /etc/passwd;
 echo "-- ";
 cat $HOME/.signature) | mutt -s 'testing signature' eric@localhost


BTW, the address needs to come after all the options in my mutt
(1.3.28). Does it work as above in 1.2.5?
