My mutt included in the ~/.muttrc: macro index \ee "<resend-message>f\=outbox\n" "Edit to resend message with complete header" macro pager \ee "<resend-message>f\=outbox\n" "Edit to resend message with complete header" that is two single lines Effectively, <escape>e edits the message and then sends the result.
