Hi all. This really isn't a mutt question but I figure the mutt community is where I have the best chance of getting advice on my predicament.
New job, employer outsources mail to Apptix, which is an Outlook shop. I've lost patience and am clawing my way back to mutt. Employer says fine, go for it, but you're on your own to make it run. Everything works on the inbound side using getmail. It logs in, it gets my mail, mutt reads it, glory. But after a day of trying I haven't been able to get outbound mail to flow. My first issue is that my mutt lives behind a firewall and doesn't have immediate access to a real IP address, so my machine can't run its own MTA. The one at Apptix is the obvious, but Apptix's SMTP service is crypted and authenticated, and I haven't found a way to make mutt log in as me. (Am I already up the wrong tree there?) Their docs don't help much, as they assume everybody is using Outlook on Windows, and their user support appears to be nonexistent (even if they'd be willing to answer questions like mine). I thought of setting up a smarthost, having mutt talk to that, and the smarthost talk to Apptix, but I haven't had much luck there either. I've tried five different common mail packages, and couldn't find specific instructions for using any of them in a configuration like this. I'm pretty sure that all I need is a pointer to the right docs to read, but so far I haven't been able to find them. For my smarthost, I don't care if I run exim, sendmail, postfix, courier... all I know for sure is that ssmtp isn't flexible enough for this. FWIW, Apptix's instructions are at: https://www.apptix.com/support/email/exchange-2010-setup/exchange-2010-outlook-pop-imap-setup-guide.aspx Relevant bit is near the bottom, page 11. Excerpt: [...] c. In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box, enter the SMTP server name: smtp.apptixemail.net Under Logon Information: a. In the User Name box, enter your user name (typically, your email address). b. In the Password box, enter your password. If you want Outlook to remember your password, make sure the check box next to Remember password is selected. [...] b. Under Outgoing server (SMTP), next to Use the following type of encrypted connection, select TLS, and then click [OK]. Outgoing Port: 587 Any clues? Thanks.
