In the absence of a method in mutt, I'd use a vim autocommand, triggered by the mutt-specific name of the temporary file. If you use another editor, then it can probably do something similar. The one in my .vimrc: au BufNewFile,BufRead ~/Desktop/mutt-* call Set_for_mutt() doesn't perform any auto-edits, but you could put anything desired in the editor function called, and it'll only run when the editor is invoked by mutt. An alternative might be to invoke the auto-edit via command-line arguments added to the "set editor=myeditor" line in .muttrc. (Not tried) Erik
